ISPO Hungary was established in 1995. According to our Constitution, ISPO Hungary is a multidisciplinary, non-political, scientific organization, which operates on the field of rehabilitation and the prosthetics and orthotics care. Among our members there are rehabilitation doctors, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, prosthetists and orthotists and distributors of medical devices. The number of our members almost between 40 and 50.
There are five members of the ISPO Hungary Board, the president, secretary, treasurer and two vice-presidents. Board meeting use to be four times in a year.
ISPO Hungary has a well-balanced economic and professional operation. General assembly is held in every year.
One member of the ISPO Hungary Board represents the society in the Health Professional Colleges of Rehabilitation, which is the official coordinator and advisor body of the National Ministry of Health.
Courses, seminars and work-shops
1. Basics in prosthetics and orthotics for resident doctors of rehabilitation and orthopaedics and traumatology (4 days)
2. Short course of basic knowledge of orthotics (medical aspects, biomechanics, new components and technologies) – 1 day
3. Short course of trunk orthoses, corsettes – 1 day
The 1st Central European Regional Congress of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics was held by the Hungarian ISPO in 1996. This successful meeting was the first stage of these conference series and regional congresses were followed every three years in one of the countries of the Central European region. These series returned to Hungary after 15 years, ISPO Hungary could be the host of this conference again between 25th and 27th of August, 2011.
This international conference was organized in cooperation with the annual congress of the Hungarian Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Altogether there were 91 participants, most of them from Hungary and from the surrounding countries. The scientific programme covered a lot of themes in prosthetics and orthotics, there were some sections in the lower limb prosthetics, upper limb prosthetics, limbs and trunk orthoses, foot orthoses and footwear, orthotics in neurorehabilitation, etc. There were 55 presentations during the two days’ scientific programme.
